David Axelrod, founder of the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics, once described him as “a member of the Mt. Rushmore of political polling.” Former Republican Governor Jeb Bush said, “Neil is one of the best - I could always count on him to provide honest, accurate and incisive data.” That bipartisan regard is the hallmark of a 40-year career that has reached the highest levels of Republican politics while earning the trust of figures across the aisle.
A native of Kansas City, Neil Newhouse has been named AAPC “Pollster of the Year” three times and twice named one of Roll Call’s “Money 20” political consultants who make a difference.
Newhouse was the lead pollster for Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential run, having done polling in prior presidential campaigns for Robert Dole, George W. Bush and Jeb Bush. He has completed political research in all 50 states and eight foreign countries, having helped elect dozens of U.S. House and Senate candidates as well as numerous gubernatorial and state level candidates. Newhouse additionally provided polling and strategic guidance for Joe Lieberman’s successful 2006 Independent Senate bid in Connecticut.
He has worked on behalf of clients in numerous industries – health care, energy, gaming, mental health, education, siting, and tax reform among the many - and done work for professional sports teams including the Bengals, Broncos, Bucs, Cardinals, Reds and Chiefs in their stadium battles. He has also worked extensively on understanding swing voter constituencies, including “Walmart Moms”, a demographic he helped define as critical to winning modern elections.
Before co-founding POS, Newhouse served as Executive Vice President of The Wirthlin Group and Political Director at the US Chamber of Commerce. A graduate of Duke University, Newhouse was honored as a Fellow at the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics in 2022 where he co-led a seminar alongside Democratic pollster Joel Benenson. Neil lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with his wife, Mary. They have two adult children and four grandkids.
